About Us

Our Mission & Guiding Principles
The HNCC works to ensure that all New Mexico residents have access to the services necessary to live a healthy, dignified life. We envision a New Mexico in which both the public and private sectors work together in a culturally sensitive and culturally competent manner to provide quality services and equitable support for all New Mexicans. The HNCC will attain this vision by advocating for:

ECONOMIC JUSTICE: Policies that eliminate or substantially reduce poverty in New Mexico, including:

  • Employment opportunities, a living wage and employee benefits available for all
  • A welfare system that helps families become self sufficient;
  • Improved resource allocation ;
  • Reduced income disparity;
  • A progressive tax policy;
  • Community-based economic development; and
  • Safe, affordable housing for all.

SOCIAL JUSTICE: Policies that uphold and support children and families, including:
  • Access to physical and mental health services for all
  • Quality education in our public schools;
  • Accessible, affordable, quality childcare;
  • Elimination of violence in our homes and communities; and
  • Elimination of discrimination in housing, employment, and education.

POLICY DESIGN AND SERVICE DELIVERY SYSTEMS: Policies that address needs by a continuum of services, including:
  • Accountability;
  • Sufficient and equitable funding:
  • A comprehensive array of services provided in a respectful and dignified manner;
  • Community planning and priorities recognized and incorporated;
  • The cost savings of early intervention and timely prevention services;
  • A continuum of care from prevention to treatment;
  • A reduction of dependence and over institutionalization of people in jails and nursing homes
  • A coordinated, efficient, and timely response to human needs across the disciplines.
